december 13:playing under the winter down covers

Marshall: “The light! I see the light!” Stewart: “Oh, Yeeaaah!”
Marshall: “Whoah, I’m falling” Stewart: “Ouch, my head! I bonk my head. Ouch…I ok!”
Mama: “Why do you like playing under the winter down?”
Marshall: “Because it’s cozy. And you can see the light, and you can play by the light.”
Mama: “Stewart, why do you like playing under the winter down?”
Stewart: “Because, because, I like under the covers.”
december 9:candlelight
We light candles on our advent log every night. The log sits on our fireplace mantle (see the picture on the top of this site.) We light them from each side and work towards the middle, so that the final candle lit is the central one on Christmas day. The boys think the most exciting thing is blowing the candles out.
december 8:christmas music

Ah, how we love the melodious songs and meaningful hymns of Christmas time! We have our favorites, mainly the ones we sing as a family at home, like our evening ritual of, “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”. We also enjoy some songs that are not as common and maybe slightly more trendy like U2’s “Baby Please Come Home and Sufjan’s “It’s Christmas, Let’s be Glad” and “We’re going to the Country”.
Last Christmas, my dad made a CD of Handel’s Messiah for the boys, they’ve listened to it almost every night since and refuse to trade it for something else, but to me it will always be some of my favorite Christmas music.
Marshall wanted me to add that his favorite part of “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” is, “and death’s dark shadow put to flight”.
december 7:snow fight and hot chocolate

So we had the first snowball fight of the year today. The boys bundled in their snowsuits. Stewart reminded me of the little brother in “The Christmas Story” as he waddled around. After Stewart got hit by a couple of stray snowballs, he’d had enough. We all gathered around the fireplace to drink hot chocolate. A great Christmas memory.
december 6:santa claus
Stewart: Santa Claus rides on a horsey, on a reindeer. He has some cookies.
Marshall: We leave it downstairs for him and the reindeer eats a carrot and Santa Claus drinks a glass of milk.
Stewart: Santa Claus builds the Christmas tree.
Marshall: And also he brings presents.
Stewart: He brings some candy cane.
Marshall: He says Ho, Ho, Ho.
Stewart: He looks like a man.
Marshall: He looks like a present man.
Stewart: He have a hat. A orange hat.
Marshall: He is trying to say red.
Stewart: A red hat.
Why does he bring you presents?
Marshall: Because it’s Jesus’ birthday.
Stewart: Jesus birthday!
